The Children’s Choir of the Bilbao Choral Society was founded in 1984 by the then conductor of the Bilbao Choir, Gorka Sierra, and is mainly made up of pupils from the Bilbao Choral Society’s Musical Education Centre. After ten years of existence, in 1994 it handed over the baton to José Luis Ormazabal, who has been its principal conductor to date. In turn, this choral group has been taught by maestros such as John Elliot Gardiner, Mistoslav Rostropovich, Juanjo Mena, Víctor Pablo Pérez and Ros Marbá, among others. The young ensemble is not only a regular on the Basque choral scene in a cappella concerts or performances such as Britten’s War Requiem conducted by Calixto Bieito, as it has also recently performed at the Teatro Alighieri in Ravenna with the Ballet Nacional de Marseille, the Auditorio Nacional and the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Palau de la Música in Barcelona, the Maestranza in Seville, etc. He has also shared the stage with local orchestras such as the OSE and the BOS, taking part in world premieres such as Zeru urdinetik by B. J. Berstelmeier, Cantata Euskadi by C. Bernaola, Eguberriko Iguzki by X. Sarasola, Koral bat gazki by X. Sarasola, Koral bat gazki by B. J. Berstelmeier and Koral bat gazki by C. Bernaola. Sarasola, Koral bat gara by X. Sarasola and X. Amuriza, Kantuz ari den herria by I. Urkizu and A. Egaña, Deitzen dizut Virgilio by J. C. Pérez and B.
