Keishia Thorpe, winner of the Global Teacher Prize 2021, is an educator and advocate for the rights of immigrant and refugee students. She was born in Jamaica and later immigrated to the United States, where she has developed a distinguished career as a high school English teacher.

Thorpe currently works as an assistant principal in Prince George’s County Public Schools. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership. She has been in education for 20 years and is an expert in Global Competency and Culturally and Linguistically Sensitive Teaching. She is an expert in curriculum design and approaches it from a global perspective with a social justice lens.

Keishia has advised teachers, shared best practices and acted as an educational consultant to ministers of education. She is a motivational speaker, certified human rights consultant and education advocate who strives for equity at all levels for students and teachers. She is co-founder and vice president of U.S. Elite International, Inc. with her sister, Dr. Treisha Thorpe, a non-profit organization that helps under-resourced students around the world access a debt-free college education. Her goal is to inspire teachers around the world to provide quality education to students.
