BBK Kuna is the social innovation laboratory of Bizkaia. Here we connect diverse people, ideas and actors to co-create responses to major social challenges by combining social sciences, technology and collaboration.

BBK Kuna: an ecosystem for social innovation
At BBK Kuna we weave collaborative networks between citizens, the private sector, institutions and universities. Our goal is to build a more sustainable, fair and resilient Bizkaia, promoting initiatives that generate a real impact in society.

Co-creation spaces
Our work spaces, workshops and laboratories allow for sharing ideas, prototyping solutions and learning in a hands-on and collaborative way.
Participative methodologies
We apply techniques such as Design Thinking, research-action or citizen labs, which make it possible to convert ideas into concrete and adaptable proposals, always from the active listening to the needs of each community.

At BBK Kuna we develop different initiatives throughout the year, also focused on diverse types of audiences.
2025, the year of food
In 2025, BBK Kuna is activating a set of initiatives focused on food as the driver for social innovation in Bizkaia. Projects such as The Future Game, which promotes intergenerational interconnection and the co-creation of solutions through gamified experiences; Inhabitants of the Future, focusing on new forms of consumption and food trends; and Googaz, which promotes healthy habits and awareness about the relationship between food and emotional well-being, are examples of this approach. With the Sustainable Gastronomy Seal and the collaboration with AZTI, we support innovation and digitalization in the Basque food sector. In addition, programmes such as ProtopIA explore the ethical potential of artificial intelligence in the food industry, while the Kuna Kideak network and expert advice from BBK Kuna Institutoa strengthen this transformation.
These experiences demonstrate that, through collaboration, youth participation and experimentation, it is possible to imagine and prototype a more sustainable, equitable and innovative food future for the whole of Bizkaia.
Results and keys
In three years, more than 13,000 people have participated in our activities, generating partnerships, lessons learnt and solutions that begin to impact the day-to-day life of Bizkaia.
